The model alpine country, Switzerland is right in the middle of the Alps and home to some of the world’s most iconic mountains. You’ll also find the biggest glaciers and the most peaks in Europe over 4000 metres; making it a great destination for summer skiing. In Valais, you will find 40 kilometres of immaculate glacier slopes.

Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Zermatt

Zermatt, Europe’s highest and biggest summer ski resort, boasts a great all-round ski and activity holiday.

Above Zermatt, up on the Theodul Glacier, the conditions are wintry 365 days a year and suitable for skiing, snowboarding and freestyling, and you can hit the slopes in summer until midday. So, rise and shine! The summer ski resort has up to 21km of slopes on offer.

Snowboarders and freeskiers also have their own paradise:  the summer Snowpark Zermatt is one of the highest freestyle arenas in the Alps and one of the region’s best snow parks. The summer snowpark on Plateau Rosa is full of creative possibilities; featuring slopestyle, a rail garden, a mini shred and a lot more. There is something for every level, the young and young at heart, beginners, hobby riders and pros.

Between snow park sessions you can stretch out on one of the loungers and recharge your batteries or enjoy something tasty from the grill – the Shred Café offers all that and much more. Right next to the snow park on Plateau Rosa the Shred Café is THE place to meet for freeskiers and snowboarders as well as summer skiers. Open from July to September, on selected dates, the Shred Café provides a DJ and a great ambience.

Trockener Steg, at 2939m is also a hub for skiers and snowboarders 365 days a year, and definitely worth a visit during summer. From here, a cable car leads up to the snowy heights at the Matterhorn glacier paradise, and the large sun terrace by the restaurant ICE offers an exceptionally clear view of the Matterhorn at 4478m.

The area is also home to the highest cable car station in Europe. At 3883m the Matterhorn glacier paradise with its modern peak restaurant sets fresh standards. From the highest viewing platform in the Alps, you can see breath-taking views of the highest mountains in Italy, France and Switzerland.

Mittelallalin, Saas-Fee

The glacier at Saas-Fee has 20km of slopes and is easily accessible by the Metro Alpin. The highest underground funicular in the world, the Metro Alpin leads to the Mittelallalin at 3500m, where the world’s highest revolving restaurant affords close-up views of the giant peaks of the Alps.

It’s a truly special experience to ski Saas-Fee in summer, and not just because of the pleasant temperatures, diverse glacier slopes, summer ski schools, assorted snow park and boarder cross. It’s also a famous training area for national and international sports teams, so you may even spot your favourite snow sports celeb on the slopes!

Conveniently the resort is just a couple of hours on the train from the Zurich or Geneva airports or a similar drive. The great thing to embrace when heading to Saas-Fee in summer is the mix of a ski break and sunshine activity holiday. You’ll start the day early with a morning ski and by the afternoon be down the mountain ready to enjoy hiking, tennis, volley-ball, mini-golf, mountain biking, climbing, swimming or skating. There’s loads to do in Saas-Fee on and off the slopes!

Back on the slopes, the Allalin glacier summer park is designed with advanced freestylers in mind, making it a great destination for staying on top of your skills throughout the warmer months.

The cable cars in Saas-Fee reopen mid-June and you can start your ski or snowboard season as of July 14th non-stop until April 28th 2019.
