Summer Family Fun in the Swiss Mountains

Summer Family Fun in the Swiss Mountains

Valais in Switzerland offers a choice of superb ski resorts for snow sports holidays, but it’s also a great destination for family summer breaks too.

Aletsch Arena, Bellwald, Blatten-Belalp, Crans-Montana, Grächen, Nendaz, Saas-Fee and Zermatt-Matterhorn hold the Swiss Tourism Federation’s quality label, “Family Destination” –and for good reason. While many of the Valais ski areas are known to offer fantastic family experiences on the slopes, there’s just as much for families to enjoy during the summer months!

The Swiss Tourism Federation’s “Family Destination” stamp of quality is awarded to holiday resorts and destinations that cater specifically to the needs and wishes of children and the adults looking after them. In Valais, one of the most unique and exciting summer, family activities are the treasure hunts. Alongside a host of other mountain activities, the treasure trails in the mountains really make Valais a playground for the whole family all year round.

These family trails offer guests a variety of specially created routes with puzzles and mysteries to solve along the way. Each treasure hunt is different and original. Armed with a treasure map, children and adults can search for clues and solve puzzles together. This active outdoor experience in nature makes walking fun for kids and promises a wealth of shared memories. Plus, if you take a terrific photo on the hunt, you can enter it into the treasure hunt’s competition for the chance to win amazing prizes like a helicopter trip or family holiday in Valais.

Aletsch Arena – On the trail of the «Gogwärgini» dwarves

Aletsch Arena’s family treasure trail is a cultivated family experience! The «Gogwärgini» are small, industrious dwarves said to have once lived in Upper Valais. Local people still tell stories about them – which you can discover at the ten stations along the «Gogwärgi» theme trail.

The treasure hunt along the «Gogwärgi» theme trail starts at the playground in Lax, where guests will find the first «Gogwärgi» station with a story. Together, families can answer the questions on the treasure map, along with the following questions about the «Gogwärgi» stories along the theme trail. Hand-carved wooden dwarves mark each of the stations along the 5.3-kilometre trail, which leads through Fiesch to the playground in Fieschertal. A great adventure for all the family to experience together.

Nendaz - Treasure hunt with all the senses

Starting in the heart of Nendaz, a treasure hunt for all the senses leads participants to the edge of the resort and the big antenna. Here the whole family can enjoy a magnificent view of the Rhone Valley, before heading through a stretch of forest and back along the sculpture trail.

Along the 3.7-kilometre way, participants will need to make use of their treasure map and all their senses to find the treasure. An exciting adventure and the perfect setting for some quality family time!

Valais’ summer treasure hunts, and the area’s winter snowtubing and sledging opportunities, gentle ski slopes, magic carpets and baby ski lifts make Valais the ideal place for a family adventure.
