Meet our instructors

Kieran Mansley

What skill do you teach?  I teach people to ski, and to have fun doing it.

What qualification do you have?   I'm BASI L2, with a Mountain Safety qualification so I can work off piste.

I'm also a SSE L3 Development Coach training skiers who want to work on their skiing over a longer term, and a BASI L1 Adaptive instructor so I can help skiers with additional needs.

I'm always trying to improve and hoping to complete the BASI L3 and SSE L4 awards this year.

When was your first Snowsports experience and where?  I learnt to ski on the dry ski slopes at Rossendale and Kendal in the late 1980s before a school ski trip to Fieberbrunn in the Austrian Tyrol.  I had a great time on that trip, and many more afterwards, thanks to my school teachers taking us to the dry slope every week.

What’s the best thing about being an instructor at The Snow Centre? The friendship with the other instructors and staff, and the excellent staff training sessions where we get some time on the slopes.

One single tip you would give to anyone taking part in Snowsports…  If you're nervous, or something doesn't seem right or make sense, tell your instructor: they have lots of ways they can make it enjoyable and help you learn in a way that suits you.

Funniest Snowsports memory?   Being offered a go on the big air bag while helping out my children's ski school, not realising they had it set up for little kids, and completely clearing the airbag to land in a heap, unhurt, on the snow behind to howls of laughter from the watching kids.

The word from the slopes

  • “Love it here. Great slope and the staff are really friendly. Also love the Alpine bar and viewing area. So pleased to have it back.”

  • “Incredible welcome and help from the staff! First trip back since before lockdown and it was well worthwhile. Lovely welcome and talk through the new set up. Then my son had an issue with his own kit and the guys couldn’t have been more helpful - very kind and very knowledgeable. The snow as good as ever and the cafe a good finish to a great time. Thank you all!”

  • “The Hemel ski centre has a great atmosphere, the instructors are friendly and helpful, it’s just an all round really well run place”

  • “Had a great time at the snow centre, went once before lockdown and was good to be back. I had a one on one lesson which was good but went too quickly. I’ll try to book two lessons on the same day so I can keep up with progress. It was all well managed and seemed to have good Covid measures in place.”
