Instructor Academy

To become a Snowsports instructor at an indoor or dry slope, you’ll need a Level 1 instructor qualification.

If you would like to teach on the mountains, you may be able to do this in some ski resorts with a BASI or IASI Level 1 qualification, but you will mostly be required to have a Level 2 qualification.

Level 1 Ski or Snowboard Instructor Qualification

At The Snow Centre you can gain a Level 1 qualification 3 different organisations, BASI, IASI or SSE. If you are an experienced parallel skier or advanced level snowboarder you can become qualified to teach beginners to intermediate skiers/snowboarders of any age, at indoor slopes in the UK. If you are unsure of your ability or just want to get some extra practice before your instructor course, book onto one of our Skills Development Sessions where our coaches will be happy to assess your level and give you any pointers you may need before you start.

See the diagram below to find out which Level 1 course is right for you.

The word from the slopes

  • “Love it here. Great slope and the staff are really friendly. Also love the Alpine bar and viewing area. So pleased to have it back.”

  • “We went to the snow centre in preparation for skiing holidays coming up. Due to Covid, the children will not have been skiing for 3 seasons by the time we go. Their confidence was therefore extremely low. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The tuition was excellent. A big thank you to everyone at the centre for getting their confidence back, especially Katrina Needham; Andy Thomson; Linda Forbes; Louise Carey and Tamara. We will definitely be back.”

  • “Facility is excellent, we’ll organised and very friendly. Had a personal session with Chris Smith, enthusiastic, great guidance and patience.”

  • “The snow centre is easy to find. There is plenty of parking and it's free. The coffee shop is really nice, you can watch the slope from there. Service was quick and staff members were very friendly. My daughter did a group lesson with James Taylor and loved it. He was excellent and made it fun and safe.”
