Instructor Courses
As a BASI Centre of Excellence we are very pleased to offer courses to aspiring snowsport instructors as well as existing instructors who would like to advance their qualifications.
Courses offered by the Snow Centre are £465 for the 5-day course. This includes BASI registration.
Alpine Instructor Level 1 - More...
This is the BASI entry-level qualification and is valid in controlled environments in the UK (Dry slopes and Snow Centres only). The course is centred on the leaning progression that turns first day beginners into parallel skiers through a series of key steps called The Central Theme.
Upon course completion successful students will be issued a certificate and be able to work within a controlled environment instructing first day novices and parallel skiers.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age 16
- A great attitude
- Good fitness level for skiing
- Experienced parallel skiing ability
Other modules required
- Child Protection Course (3 hour)
- Valid (12 hour) first aid certificate
- Minimum 35 hours ski school shadowing after course

Snowboard Instructor Level 1 - More...
The Snowboard level 1 Instructor is BASI’s entry-level qualification and is valid in controlled environments in the UK. The course is centred on the leaning progression that turns first day beginners into standard turn riders through a series of key steps called The Central Theme.
Upon course completion successful students will be issued a certificate and be able to work within a controlled environment (Dry slopes and Snow Centres only) instructing first day novices and standard turn riders.

- Minimum age 16

- Good fitness level
- All mountain riding ability

Senior Instructor Course - More...
The Senior Instructor course is the second module of the BASI system of training and certification for working on Dry Slopes and Indoor Snow Centres. It is the training and assessment that leads to becoming a British Snowsports Instructor.
Once you have successfully completed the Senior Instructor Course and Child Protection Modules, you can be registered on the Association’s database as a full member and will receive the licence, in house journal ‘BASI News’ and all other full member benefits.
Assessment
You’ll be continuously monitored and assessed throughout your course by your trainer in order to provide the best feedback on your strengths, weaknesses and areas to improve. You’ll also perform self-reviews in order to further document your progress.

3) Assessment Criteria
By studying the above, you’ll have a clear idea of what you need to be able to do by the conclusion of the course.

Alpine Development Coach Level 1 - More...
This first level course is run in partnership with the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation (CSCF) and is also the CSCF Entry Level Course.
Candidates are introduced to the philosophies and skills needed to be an effective long-term coach (Coaching will normally take place through ski clubs and in house instructor programmes). This course is ideal for coaches, parents of young performers active in ski clubs and instructors with an interest in performance skiing. The Development Coach Level 1 Certificate is a stand-alone qualification and leads candidates into the Development Coach Level 2.
Prerequisites
- A great attitude and good ski fitness level for active skiing, ability to cleanly link carved turns on blue terrain.
- Be an associate member of BASI

The Snow centre is proud to announce its association with BASP UK LTD who provide First Aid for outdoor users who spend their work or recreation time in an environment where normal emergency services cannot access or may be delayed by time or distance.
BASP also provides training for our staff who are instructors or ski patrollers, as well as the Scottish ski areas. BASP is well known and respected within the International Ski patrol world through the International Ski patrol Federation (FIPS).
